Overview

The Certified Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for testing and measuring eye function to assist the Optometrist.

 

Ophthalmic Tech (NL) salary range: $19.74-$23.20 DOE with ability to go higher for highly experienced candidates.

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible to test patient’s far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, color perception, and measures intraocular pressure of eyes per department protocol.
  2. Responsible to examine eye for gross abnormalities and reports findings to Optometrist.
  3. Responsible to apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes per department protocol.
  4. Responsible to test patient’s field of vision, including central and peripheral vision; test corneal topography; and test macular and posterior segment health via OCT scanner.
  5. Responsible to provide instructions to patients concerning eye care per provider direction.
  6. Responsible to assist Optician and Patient Services Representative with glass orders, checking in and scheduling patients, contacting patients to fill schedules, edging and mounting lenses, and other duties.
  7. Responsible to promote a positive work culture and upholds clinic policies and procedures, including the WE CARE standards of Behavior.
  8. Responsible to uphold confidentiality at all times in regards to CBHA activities, reports, financials, patient health information and other proprietary information specific to CBHA.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Professional and Technical Knowledge:

  1. Possesses basic level of mathematical knowledge typically acquired through completion of a high school program.

 

Technical Skills:

  1. Possesses working knowledge of computer terminals, calculator and telephone.
  2. Ability to prepare basic correspondence and simple reports in Microsoft Word.
  3. Ability to accurate enter patient data into Electronic Medical Record.
  4. Ability to operate special eye care testing equipment.

 

Communication Skills:

  1. Ability to speak, read, write, and translate both English and Spanish.
  2. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients and the general public.
  3. Ensure communication of complex and/or technical information to co-workers and others and ensures understanding by the other party.
